Running your tournament
With your tournament fundamentals defined and participants and brackets configured, it's time for the excitement of tournament day! This guide will walk you through using MixItOne to manage player arrivals, oversee on-court action, and record those well-earned victories.
Phase 1: Welcoming players
A smooth and friendly check-in process sets a positive tone for your tournament.
Activating registration
As your players start arriving, or just before the activity begins:
- Navigate to the Registration tab in your tournament dashboard.
- Click the "Start registration" button. You can now check people off the list as they arrive.
- You can move on to the next step before everyone has arrived. MixItOne will start creating games using the available entries, depending on the competition format.
Phase 2: Courtside action! Managing matches and courts
Navigate to the Games tab. This is your visual control center, showing your configured courts. Each court will display its current status:
- Empty: The court is available for a new match.
- Pending: A match is assigned but has not yet started.
- In Progress: A match is currently being played and a timer is shown.
Click on "Start tournament" to begin assigning matches to courts.
Intelligent auto-assignment: The software considers several factors to suggest or automatically assign suitable upcoming matches:
- Player Availability: It ensures players are not currently in another match or have just finished one (respecting stand-down periods).
- Stand-Down Periods: A configurable rest time (e.g., 10 minutes) between matches is enforced for players.
- Wait Time Priority: Players who have been waiting longer may be prioritized.
- Balanced Competition Flow: It aims to balance progress across different active competitions.
Assigning matches to courts:
- For Empty Courts: Click the plus icon (+). MixItOne will fetch the next avaliable match for that court.
- For Pending Matches: Use the refresh button if the players are not ready to cycle to another available match.
If you cannot assign any more matches to a court then you might need to select the winners for completed matches. Some competition formats can pre-assign all matches, and others require matches to be scored before creating the next round.
Getting Matches Started: Monitoring Play
- Once a match is assigned, guide your players to the correct court.
- On your court management screen, click the play button for the match.
- A timer will start, and the match status will change to "In Progress."
Phase 3: Capturing Results: Scoring and Match Completion
Once the match has finished, click on the tick button to remove the match from the court. At this point you can assign a new match to that court. At some point you'll need to record the match result.
Completed and unscored matches appear on the right side of the court management screen, under the "Completed matches" section.
- Click on a match to open the drawer.
- Click on the winning entry.
- Optionally add a score. This score is for your use only, it doesn't affect the bracket progression but you can use it to decide winners later on in tie breaks.
Visualise match progression
Click on the "Matches" tab to see a visual representation of all matches in the tournament:
Hover an entry to see their progression through the competition.
When you select the final winner of a competition you'll see a congratuations message with the winning entry. You can then click to the "Stats" to view the final standings and statistics for that competition.
With the final match scored, your competition within MixItOne is concluded. Congratulations to all participants!
