Single Elimination Format

Use this format when you need a fast, clear winner for a singles or doubles competition. Organizers set up entries and seeds once, then winners advance round by round until one champion remains.

Set up and run a single elimination bracket

  1. Confirm your competition has enough valid entries (minimum 2).
  2. Add or review seed values for entries you want separated early.
  3. Generate the bracket for the competition.
  4. Check first-round matchups and confirm any automatic byes.
  5. Start play and record match results as each round finishes.
  6. Continue until the final is completed and the winner is confirmed.

Expected result

  • A full knockout bracket is created.
  • Higher seeds are separated in early rounds.
  • If entries are not a power of 2, byes are assigned automatically.
  • Each recorded result advances the winner to the next round.
  • The competition ends with one champion.

When to use this format

  • You have limited court time and want the shortest path to a winner.
  • You want a simple format players already understand.
  • You expect 4, 8, 16, or 32 entries (best fit), but any supported count works.

Troubleshooting

  • Bracket cannot be generated: Check that the competition has at least 2 valid entries.
  • Unexpected byes: This is normal when the entry count is not a power of 2.
  • Seeds look wrong: Review entry seed values before generating or regenerating the bracket.
  • Player withdrawn mid-event: Update the affected match in the competition before continuing later rounds.
